| As a general statement I
would say
that my approach to these sound works is the approach of a collage
artist.
I first began making collages regularly in 1983. I have always had a
strong
interest in music and have always been tempted to pursue musical
composition
but always felt that composition was too much of a group project since
works of music need to be performed. However with the advent of digital
technology and the internet it has become possible to think of music as
a form of collage making by chopping up, manipulating and fusing
together
various sound files without the need for or reliance on instumentation
or live performance. In short, I am able to maintain the pattern and
privacy
of being a studio artist but expand my artistic expression into audio.
The following
compositions were constructed
from sounds garnered from the internet from other composers and artists
then manipulated in some way, usually beyond recognition (I hope) and
then
mixed together. I am also incorporating my own recorded sounds using a
mini disc recorder or a microphone on the computer
